My affair with BattleBots dates back to the early 2000s when I watched it in my early teens. So imagine how surreal it all felt 20 years later when I was able to lead social strategy for the series on Discovery. To say I was giddy was an understatement.

TikTok:

Part of the strategy I employed for this series was to leverage our emerging TikTok popularity in what I envisioned as Bot Tok - using the platform’s most popular original sounds and pairing them with the visuals of robot fighting. Take a look at some of the pieces I am most proud of:

Bot Cam:

Since the COVID-19 pandemic prevented us from going on set to obtain content, we were lucky to use self-shot, behind the scenes footage from the bot teams and make them into what we called Bot Cam - a shortform video series that emulated the look of an old video camcorder

BattleBots AR Filter

Working with one of our in-house video editors and CameraIQ, we built a Which Bot are You? AR filter in the lead up to the season five premiere of BattleBots in late 2020. The idea behind using a forehead randomizer for this was to capitalize on audiences using the filter over and over to see what different kinds of results they would get. Give it a try!
